The Art of Awkward – Embracing the Uncomfortable and Growing from it

Presented by Kristi Spaethe, SHRM-CP, PHR

Have you ever had to deliver bad news to someone? If you are a leader or Human Resources Professional within your organization, chances are pretty good that you have had to do that.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation that was just plain awkward? If we are honest with ourselves, chances are that we would all say “yes”! Awkwardville is a part of life and instead of running from it, if we can teach ourselves to embrace it, we can do some growing along the way. This session provides tools to embrace the awkward and become better professionals and individuals because of it.

    Our agenda includes:

    • A step by step process to deal with the uncomfortable
    • Why we should ‘wade into” Awkwardville
    • Introduction to the book “Radical Candor” by Kim Scott
    • Using Radical Candor in all areas of our personal and professional lives

    Learning objectives:

    • Steps to take when we recognize an uncomfortable situation
    • The benefits of embracing those situations and not running from them
    • The responsibilities of leaders in the uncomfortable situations
    • Real life application of Radical Candor

This session will be delivered through facilitated discussion and practice activities.
